“ Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hope, but no plans.” - Peter F Drucker
“People’s hesitation in making commitments often revolves around fear. They’re afraid they aren’t capable of meeting their pledge. To err on this side is to trade all our power to “look good” by not breaking any agreements. Nothing happens without commitment. Are you more concerned today in “looking good” or in producing extraordinary results.” – Brian Klemmer
Commitment is keeping your word… how many of us are afraid to commit to someone or something. If you look at the world today, many people do not make commitments. For example, how many times have you asked someone if they are open to joining you in an outing or helping you in some way. Most people say “maybe” or “I will see,” but how many people say YES right away? I know I have been guilty of not making a commitment because I am afraid of what the opportunity might entail or might require. By not making a commitment I choose to let fear rule my life. When fear takes over, it paralyzes it’s victim. When I am paralyzed I become stuck and I make no progress in my life, I become a sitting duck, compliant. However, compliance never gets me anywhere, I stay where I am and I never move forward. However, when I am committed, I use all resources to achieve the result I committed to.
A question to ask yourself is in what areas of your life are you only in compliance? When can you be more committed?
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, the providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way” -William Murray
