“I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances.” – Martha Washington
This morning, it was a challenge to pick only one thing to write on, however, the one thing I am sure of is the overwhelming sense of joy, happiness, and excitement I have right now. I woke up this morning with this overwhelming sense of joy, it starts from the tip of my toes to the top of my head. I appreciate the quote above because we determine whether we are happy, joyful and excited or not.
To be honest, I woke up this morning with hives, a sinus infection and my voice sounding like a frog. I could have dwelt on those things, made my whole day about them. I could have had a dialogue in my head about how it is so unfair that I have to deal with these physical issues, however, it is not worth my time. I acknowledged them, took measures to correct them and moved on with my day. In getting ready this morning I thought of all the exciting things I was going to do, have my morning chat with my significant other, call my mentor sometime in the day, work on some events I am planning, have lunch with a great team of people and the list goes on and on. I have no idea what else will come my way but one thing I do know is that I started my day saying, “I am grateful for the things I have been blessed with, for this day, for the earth, for my health, my apt, my mentors, my boyfriend, my family, my faith, my talents and gifts.” When you make a list of all that you have been blessed with and given, no bad thing can out weigh those.
One of my mentors said, “when I start to feel upset or down or inadequate or scared I envision a happy place and recreate that happy place in my head.” My happy place was in 2nd grade, with my best friend at the time. It was a cloudy and windy fall day in Dallas Texas. The leaves were turning colors and blowing everywhere and I remember being so excited since we were allowed to have an extra recess that day because we had filled the marble jar (to get a marble you had to follow the rules). My best friend and I were swinging (which is one of my favorite things to do). The wind was blowing in our hair and we were singing at the top of our lungs (another thing I love to do). I remember being totally content with everything around me, I had not a care in the world and I was very happy. I remember that day very vividly and any time I start to get down, I go back to that day and recreate the entire moment. Doing that reminds me that it is the little things in life that I am grateful for, swinging and singing.
I have been blessed beyond belief by many of you thanking me for sending out these daily emails. I want you all to know that being able to send these out day after day brings me pure joy! Life is fleeting, in every situation find the glass half full. Live, learn and love… do not let the circumstances of the day determine your happiness or misery.
“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.” -Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
My challenge to everyone is to find the positive in every circumstance you face today. Live an EXTRAORDINARY life!!!
Have a SUPER day!!!
